Let’s Talk Confidence
I’ll be the first to admit that I used to be insecure, from puberty all the way into adulthood. The choices I made in my life were a reflection of that. It took a lot of time for me to build up my confidence, and to look at myself in a positive light. We all have different life experiences, and we all have things that we don’t love about ourselves.
I’ve always been the “fake it until you make it” kind of person, portraying to the people around me that I had it all together and was so confident, but deep down inside I was battling some negative thoughts and feelings. I knew getting into fitness would help me look better, but I had no idea what it would do for my confidence in myself.
Over the past few years, I’ve been able to challenge myself in ways I never thought possible. I practiced saying positive things and being kind to myself. That was a game changer, because people can tell you how amazing you are, but until you believe it- it doesn’t mean anything.
Whenever my clients ask me how to build confidence, I explain that it’s a process. Everyday you get better, as long as you practice building that confidence. Every time a negative thought comes to mind, counter it with a positive one and try to speak the confidence into yourself. It takes time to develop, but the outcome is so worth it.
In the beginning of most fitness journeys there’s that defining moment: Do I give up or keep going? In that moment is the perfect opportunity to exercise that confidence in yourself.
