When Should I Start Posing?
A common misconception that most first time competitors have is that posing comes into play close to show time. For most, it takes months or even years to learn the fundamentals of posing including: balance, posture, pelvic tilt, core engagement and fluidity of movement. Once, you have the fundamentals down and build a routine that highlights your specific physique, then mastering the stage presence component comes into play!
The simple answer is that you should start posing as soon as you decide to compete. For first time competitiors, I recommend posing with a coach in the off-season BEFORE you start prep. Each competitor will be starting from a different point depending on their individual background and experiences. Your presentation/routine is how you showcase months and years of hard work by highlighting your strengths and hiding weaknesses through movement. You don’t want to leave that up to chance!
When should you start posing? The answer is now! As soon as you decide that you want to compete, hire a coach, and begin learning the fundamentals of posing from a professional who can help you lay a solid foundation to shine on stage.
Happy Posing!
